Chaos in Gambia as Yahya Jammeh declares a state of emergency

Yahya Jammeh, the President of Gambia has declared a 90-day state of emergency a day before his official mandate ends.
Last year Jammeh criticised what he called ‘extraordinary’ foreign meddling into his country’s election process/
He decried “extraordinary” foreign interference in his country’s affairs and December’s election.
Jammeh has been urged to quit his post and hand power to Adama Barrow, who won the election and topped polling with voters.
Nigeria has deployed a major warship to the coastline in a bid to encourage Jammeh to step down and leave his position.
Speaking in a TV address said “Acts of disobedience to the laws The Gambia, incitement of violence and acts intended to disturb public order and peace” are banned under the state of emergency.
Jammeh also called for the country and its authorities to “maintain absolute peace, law and order”.
